In front of a crowd of around 4-5 thousand fans, both the JV and Varsity teams were tested today in their homecoming matchups against a fast paced Moanalua program. Both squads remained undefeated in their own respective 2011 campaigns.
The JV squad overcame a 5 point deficit in the 2nd half with 15 consecutive points to put them up 22-13 late in the 4th quarter. Moanalua would score later but couldn’t recover the ensuing onside kick giving the JV Menehune’s their 1st loss of the season. Kahuku JV wins 22-20.
As for the Varsity, other than a quick interception from Mason Kualii-Moe followed by a rushing TD by Kawe Johnson, the offense struggled and the defense held it’s own picking off 2 more passes. Moanalua tied it up with a 70 yard running back pass from Christian Akana to Jo-Michael Sharsh in the 3rd Quarter. From there, it was just old fashioned Kahuku football. Stout defense with a bulldozing running game. Aofaga Wily put the Red Raiders ahead with a 30 yard TD run, capping his 180+ yard night, and the defense closed the door as Kahuku defended their homecoming 14-7.
