Red Raiders, Mighty Mules, HHSAA State Semifinals. History is not on Kahuku’s side when you put those 3 phrases together. Kahuku lost in the other 2 previous State Semifinal match ups in 2004 and 2008. However, the Red Raider defense have dominated the high flying Mule offense in their last 2 games picking off 7 passes. In Leilehua’s last game, they jumped out to a commanding 22-0 lead and used a pair of late field goals to hold off a rallying Kealakehe Waverider team on the big island. The last time we saw our Red Raiders, after a slow start, the offense played their best football in the 2nd half while the defense had a masterful performance shutting down the state’s leading rusher and blanking the, then ranked #1, Farrington Governors 23-0 which earned them a bye last week. It’s power vs. finesse part 2 at the Aloha Stadium at 7PM HST on Friday the 18th of November. The game will be streaming online for those of you in the mainland (click here for the link). The stream for this game is free. The State Championship game is where the game will be PPV.
The last time Kahuku and Farrington met, it was for the OIA East Crown in a game that was packed before halftime of the JV game. At 7pm on Friday night, with the venue at Aloha Stadium, the stage is bigger. With the #1 spot in next weeks state tourney and an OIA Championship, the stakes are bigger. With 2 of the most passionate fan bases in the state and OC16 streaming the game live, the crowd will be bigger. With 2 of the best smashmouth teams in the state, the hits will be bigger. Join us for round two of #1 vs. #2 in what has become a revived rivalry. Can’t be at the game or catch the online broadcast? Follow us on Twitter or Facebook for live, detailed, in-game updates.
There is also a pep rally at the Kahuku High School gym at 1:45 pm on Friday. Look on facebook for a group called “Red Alert” for specific details about the event.
The best defense in the state will try to shutdown the highest scoring offense in the state as our Kahuku Red Raiders will take on the undefeated Leilehua Mules in the OIA Red Semifinals. USA Today Computers Prediction: 35-0 Kahuku
Predictions have a record of 3-0 and the scores were surprisingly accurate.
Consider the varsity brackets that we released earlier this week as a rough draft because the OIA has released the official brackets with a little more info. The match-ups are the same but there are more dates and times posted. We also have the JV Brackets up so we will do highlights and coverage of our undefeated JV team throughout the playoffs(as long as we have the resources). The JV Team is the only undefeated JV team in the OIA and gave 3 other high seeded teams their 1st loss of their seasons (Farrington, Moanalua, and Leilehua).
